Here are some guidelines for expectant mothers. Foods to Avoid During Pregnancy: Certain foods can carry harmful bacteria, which might pose risks to the baby. Raw or undercooked eggs, meat, and seafood can lead to foodborne illnesses like salmonella and listeria, which are dangerous during pregnancy. Additionally, avoid unpasteurized dairy products and soft cheeses like feta and brie, as they may contain harmful bacteria. High-mercury fish, such as swordfish and king mackerel, should also be avoided because mercury can harm a developing baby’s nervous system. Caffeine should be limited as it can increase the risk of miscarriage in high amounts. A nutritional diet for pregnancy should focus on foods that provide essential vitamins and minerals. Foods rich in folic acid, like leafy greens, citrus fruits, and fortified cereals, are crucial as they help prevent neural tube defects. Calcium is also vital for building the baby’s bones, so incorporate dairy products or fortified plant-based alternatives.
